Customizing the blogger templates is straightforward if
you understand CSS and HTML. I started with one of the predfined templates and improvised from there, testing each change as I made it. (If you don't understand both CSS and HTML, I suggest that you stick with a predefined template.) I found it helpful to print some of the template help files to keep beside me for reference as I modified the template.
